Hello ball hockey families.
We have a few updates for you as we get closer to the start of our 2024 Spring Season.
First, all assessment sessions are complete and coaches will soon conduct the draft process to form teams. You can then expect to hear from your team coach and/or division coordinator by email during the week of March 18. We know some of you may be off on spring break adventures that week, but please keep an eye on your email if you can.
Second, our league scheduler is weaving together teams, venues and available floor time using some sort of Hogwarts-level wizardry to finalize our April schedule. But we can confirm the following to mark in your calendars:
- The first evening practice sessions for U8, U10 and U12 teams will happen April 2-4. Your coach will confirm your team’s practice date, time and location as soon as we finalize the details.
- All divisions except Tykes will play in our season opening Jamboree April 6 and 7. Again, your coach will confirm your game date, times and location with you. (Note: Tykes play will start the following week.)
The Jamboree is an exciting kickoff for the season. Each team will play three short games against other teams in their division, meaning you can expect to be at your division’s venue for several hours that day. The Jamboree provides a fun atmosphere for teams to get to know one another, and for us to ensure teams are reasonably balanced before we start regular league play.
And finally, here are a few other quick notes to help prepare for the season ahead:
- Please ensure your player has all the required equipment needed to play before the Jamboree weekend. A particular reminder for our goalies that you must have a CSA-approved helmet or goalie mask, and that many street hockey masks do not meet this standard. Having the right equipment is essential for everyone’s safety.
- Each team will need a parent to volunteer as the team manager. No experience is necessary to fill this vital role for your team, and we have an updated Manager’s Manual on our website to give you an overview of what managers do. Please let your coach know if you are willing to volunteer.
- If you haven’t already, please take time to also review the Information for Parents resource available on our website as a reference to help address common questions you may have.
